Natural Illustration: Leaf Structures in Pen and Ink

In this intermediate to advanced level class, students will learn the basics of natural illustration drawing with a focus on leaf structures and pen-and-ink drawing. Students will learn about plant anatomy and venous structures, using magnifying glasses to scrutinize and illustrate details. Students will learn how to use pen-and-ink to create many types of detail and texture. Some leaf specimens will be provided to draw from life along with photo reference materials. A basic understanding of drawing techniques is advised.

Ages: Adult (15+) / Intermediate or Advanced levels
Supply List:
- Micron Pens (other brands acceptable but micron is best) - Sizes .5, 1, 3, 5, 8
- 2 HB pencils
- Pencil sharpener
- Kneaded eraser, White eraser
- 11 x 14” Bristol drawing paper pad. 2-ply or heavier, medium of vellum finish
- Magnifying glass
- Optional: Specimens or reference images from your own collection
