Fundamentals of Backstrap Weaving

Students will learn the basic fundamentals of Guatemalan backstrap weaving. This enriching ancient art is done with wooden sticks, and the weavers’ body used as tension for the yarns. The course will have students comfortable in their looms with a broad understanding of how woven structures are comprised  at a basic level.  Students will learn about body awareness, selvedge correctness, adding yarn to the weft, winding weft and efficiency in the loom.

NOTE: Registration includes the a backstrap loom, weaving belt and anchor lasso which will go home with the student at the end of the workshop. Yarns are also included.
